MBFWA Street style

Missed fashion week this year? Don't fret, we spent every spare second at Carriage Works snapping the brightest and boldest looks. In fact, it actually became quite addictive trying to scour for someone better dressed than the last!

… We have more street style snaps to share including this years biggest street trends. Stay tuned!

MBFWA'13 Group Swim

If you follow us on Instagram, you'll know that THE INFLUENCER is doing MBFWA! With suitcases overflowing with colourful pieces and way too many shoes, we arrived and hit the ground running with our first runway show: Group Swim.

Other than the fact we're going on an immediate diet, one of the biggest things we realised is how much swimwear has changed over the years. It's less about the simple shape in even simpler colours, and more about the current trends and bringing bikinis and one-pieces into the fashion world. We spotted everything from cutouts, 50's florals, metallics, exposed zips and sheer panels, to hot shapes like peplums, two-piece wetsuits, and crop tops.

Suddenly my triangle bikini, circa 1998, doesn't seem to cut it anymore...

HAPPY MBFWA!

LMFF'13 Day 4: Life of a fashion blogger

Bloggers: Erin Maxwell & Lisa Hamilton

Designer: Bul

Designer: Watson X Watson

Designer: Bul

Designer: Lucette

So, you're probably wondering how we're able to snap your fave designers left, right and centre this week, right? Well, thanks to the ladies at AMPR, our hard work and dedication paid off this week as we hit up L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival for a sneak preview into what we'll be lusting over (and bringing to you) in AW13. Hopefully you've been following our posts so far!

We often find our readers are super curious to find out what it's like to be a FASHION BLOGGER. So today, we're giving you a rare sneak peek backstage, how we got to be reporting at the shows, and what went down... from our eyes.

Seeing our fave brands, Watson X WatsonLucette and Blessed are the Meek has made us love our job even more! Showcasing printed blue hues, asymmetrical silhouettes, cut out pieces and (lots of) textured fabrics, we now have so many photo shoots to come - inspiration overload

This week we've met the lovely the girls from Lion Lion Bazaar, hung out with Lisa from See Want Shop and hadmajor outfit envy from the girls at How Two Live

How did we get here? Well, it all started when we were young girls nagging our mums to buy us the latest Cosmopolitan magazine (where we promised we wouldn't read the sealed section), but the real reason isputting ourselves out there. We're all about thinking outside the square, meeting new people and trying to get to the nitty gritty of where the inspiration was drawn from. We began blogging to share our love for fashion with the industry - going backstage is one of our favorite things to do before being wowed by the show. Why? To capture the things you're yet to see AND to be INFLUENCED.

Before you think this was a one man show, just wait. Presented by Vogue and InStyle, runway one and two led our girl crush to escalate. Wearing our fave pieces of the night, model Rachel Rutt was definitely the highlight. To celebrate her 'show', we wanted to give you the 411 of this perfectly jawed babe:

The 21 year old was born in Hong Kong, raised in Japan and moved to Australia at the age of 15. By 17 she was signed with Chic Models and debuted at David Jones' 2008 Spring Collection show. She became the most requested girl for Australia Fashion Week and went on to sign with Next Model Management in, wait for it- New York.

You would have no doubt seen this face across the blog-o-sphere or walking down the latest catwalk. Rutt is kicking goals being in high demand across many successful international brands. Did we mention she modelled for our black book fave Phillip Lim? Yeah, she's kinda a big deal.

LMFF'13 Day 1: Opening Show

Colour entered the runway at Loreal Melbourne Fashion Festival's opening party this week.  Lets say goodbye to black this season and inject bold looks into our wardrobes. Designers, Josh Goot and Lover stuck to their structured, feminine shapes with galaxy prints and bold designs, where Scanlan and Theodore stepped towards metallic materials with big shoulders.

Instead of regram-ing your whole Instagram feed, we've decided to picked our top Designer of the night-

MARY KATRANTZOU-
Have you ever stumbled upon your grandparents hoarding habits? Wondered what they were doing at the time they picked up their hundreds of different stamps, articles and fashion pieces? Mary has. This collection was inspired by stories told about stamp prints and where their memories were created. The talented UK designer took over the run way with creams, blue and green hues through long line, feminine silhouettes. It's all about dreaming of what each paper represents, who's touched and its journey.

"As borders changed and currencies became obsolete, stamps and banknotes lingered as token of the past, literal souvenirs of the values of other, lost cultures"

Hello from Bali! Well, actually, the floor of Denpasar Airport where the ends of my hair are now purple, my arms are full of colourful candy and I am hugging a (large) bottle of aloe vera gel to help mourn my departure. For your next trip to Bali- which should be ASAP, I have spent a few too many hours exploring the (hidden) streets to give you the 411. Designers Lottie Hall, Magali Paskal, Natasha Gan and the well-known Shakuhachi should be on your 2013 stalk list.

Street markets:
Keep your head up high and remember to bargain. I strolled through Kuta, Seminyak and Ubud and managed to barter everything down by a third and picked up 4KG (literally) of new jewelry and clothes. An amazing skull knuckle-duster for $3 was my best find.

Magali Paskal:
Very Scanlan and Theodore inspired looking pieces. My friend managed to pick up a great pair of green pants and a statement leather biker jacket. If you're after a great pair of shoes or a new leather bag, this is the place to go.

THE MARKET:
Not your typical market- an adorable modern vintage store just out of Seminyak in Kuta. Very creative visual merchandising and perfect for one off jewelry and street wear.

Twenty-One concept store:
Filled with on trend international brands such as Wild Fox and Illestiva New York where  hipster meets hippy. Right up my alley.

SOMETHING:
Modern, affordable street wear with a Balinese edge. If it's not your thing, please go to check out the awesome interior- the lighting, old school prints and ornaments will inspire you.

Natasha Gan:
my new fave Aussie designer. Cool printed t-shirts, party dresses and street wear. I picked up a super comfy high-waisted floral skirt and leopard print military shirt.

Once you’ve tired yourself out from shopping, you MUST visit Potato head Beach Club for the sunset. It will be the most beautiful thing you will ever experience. If you like a tasty refresher, make sure you sip on the Kookaburra Cocktail.

I stayed in Ubud for a few days. Monkey Forest Road has a few clothing stores, but one, Press Ban took my eye. I would describe it as Gorman meets a modern Flea market. Cute clogs, vintage dresses and statement bags. The store is hard to notice but look out for the white vintage door.

Follow me on Instagram @walkthestalk and @THEINFLUENCER to keep updated with my travels- I’ll see you in Singapore!
